Hargobind khorana:

Hargobind Khorana is one of the most famous scientists of the 20th century and one of India’s most prestigious achievements. He was an organic chemist and molecular biologist who won the 1968 Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology for his work on nucleic acids. He was born to Hindu parents in the province of Punjab, now a part of modern-day India, in 1922. He experienced a childhood of relative luxury, with his father working as an accountant for the local government which allowed the family to live in relative comfort. His ambitions to pursue a scientific career seemed impossible due to the financial restrictions of his family, which limited the family’s ability to participate in activities such as getting higher education for Hargobind.

Hargobind’s family moved to the city of Multan, Pakistan, in 1935, in order to establish his father’s business, so he could continue his studies. It was during this time that he developed an interest in the English language, which would serve as the foundation of most of his later studies. Hargobind attended University of Punjab, Lahore, where he earned an honors degree in the field of Chemistry in 1945.

In 1945,Hargobind khorana emigrated to the United States, where he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia. He subsequently joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin and eventually became a U.S. citizen. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Hargobind and his research team were able to elucidate the structure and functions of certain genetic molecules, including transfer RNA. In 1968, he won the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology for his discoveries about the structure and function of nucleic acids, which are the molecules of life.

Hargobind was the first scientist of Indian origin to gain a Nobel Prize, and his achievements have been compared to those of Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and Niels Bohr. He was awarded numerous honors during his lifetime, including the Order of Merit of India, and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Sciences. Hargobind Khorana is regarded as one of the most significant scientists of the 20th century, and his legacy of innovative scientific breakthroughs continues to inspire generations of scientists.
