The engineering colleges have been rated on the basis of an eight point scale, AAAA to A- (AAAA, AAA+, AAA, AA+, AA, A+, A and A-.) Let us have a look at the classifications of these ratings:

Rating  of Institutions
AAAA	Top class institution
AAA+	Very high quality institution
AAA	High quality institution
AA+	Better quality institution
AA	Good quality institution

The rating of the engineering colleges is given on the basis of states. Under each state, the colleges are arranged in the following categories:

• Institutions of National Importance
• Central/Deemed/State Private Universities
• State Universities/University Departments/Affiliated Colleges

Methodology
The Rating Methodology is divided into three factors:

1. A.   Preliminary Clustering – Admission cut off provided by the state board.
2. B.   Rating of colleges – Based on a max-min schema of the cut-offs (rank or marks) available for the best or worst branches of each engineering college.
3. C. Discrimination within clusters –Research output, institutional infrastructure, accreditation, faculty data and other available parameters.
